Biography
Dr. Gooding earned her bachelor’s degree at UCLA and her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Fordham University with an emphasis in Neuropsychology and Health Psychology. She completed her predoctoral internship at the UC San Diego Medical Center and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at Columbia University Medical Center. She now serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSD, where she is responsible for supervising neuropsychology graduate students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows.
Clinical Focus
Dr. Gooding provides clinical neuropsychological services to adolescents and adults with a wide range of neurological, medical, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions, as well as other cognitive and learning disorders. She provides pre- and post-operative evaluations for individuals with epilepsy and brain tumors, and she has specialty training in intra-operative language mapping and intracarotid sodium amobarbital (i.e., Wada) procedures.
Research Focus
Broadly, Dr. Gooding’s research interests focus on the impact of neurological disease on cognition and behavior, with a particular emphasis on improving functional outcomes. She has been involved in several projects utilizing cognitive rehabilitation techniques to improve neuropsychological status in individuals with epilepsy, schizophrenia, and early Alzheimer’s disease. She is now exploring ways to improve post-operative functional recovery in neurosurgical populations.
